| Mike Nelson Keyboards, sax, flutes, background and lead vocals He learned harmony singing in church choirs and strumming in a long series of failed folkie projects. Has been a member of the South St.Paul horn-rock band BBC; Jim Mitchell and Big Bill Bergeron big bands; Aloysius Derke and the Melody Artists; The Adaptors, and Greycloud. In between have been clarinet/sax gigs in musical theatre pits and lifetime involvement in community bands, including four years as director of the Inver Hills Community Band. Mike earned his degree in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin - River Falls in 1979, which has led quite naturally to a 24-year career with the U. S. Postal Service. He values Puzzle Dust as a way to work off the resulting disgruntledness, and a superb way to hide from the wife. The formal musical education and gigs haven't dulled his ability to get crazy on stage. Influences: Jimmie Smith, Booker T. Jones, Benmont Tench, Denny McLain, Walter Wanderley, Sonny Stitt, Tom Scott, Branford Marsalis, Thijs van Leer, Tom Lehrer, and Jonathan & Darlene Edwards. |
